While walking back home from Tivetshall on Friday (where we had dropped the car off for its MOT!) I found a small troop of pale fungi growing on the verge of Station Road just as we neared the A140. Taking a few photos and getting home I initially thought they were Field Mushrooms, then Pavement Mushrooms. I was wrong on both counts however and James Emerson suggested they might be Salty Mushroom, Agaricus bernardii. To clear the matter up I returned to get a specimen and was able to confirm that the strong fishy smell and the fact that the cut flesh quickly turned reddish-pink showed that James was right. The species used to be more coastal favouring salty conditions but is now sometimes found by salted roads - which also fits nicely being very close to the A140.
