With Ospreys having bred at Ranworth Broad (the first breeding in the county for c250 years) it seemed appropriate to go and pay them homage!
With the young now having left the nest I feared I might be too late but after a short wait and some scanning I picked up a soaring bird that went on to show really well with several fishing attempts in the middle of the broad. While scanning I also picked up Red Kite and Marsh Harrier while a Kingfisher showed nicely from the hide along the boardwalk. Alas no big camera with me though!
The reeds and vegetation along the boardwalk also provided a lot of interest with c12 Swallowtail caterpillars munching on Milk Parsley, Twin-lobed Deerfly, Bird Blowfly, Large Ectemnius, Willow Mason Wasp and the red and black flower beetle Anthocomus rufus. Best of all however were 2 enormous Musk Beetles I found while photographing the Swallowtail caterpillars - a species I’ve long wanted to see and dipped a couple of times in the past.
