Limbourne Common isn't really a common but it is 'common land' so I was free to wander along the banks of the Waveney there. It is situated just to the SE of Wortwell and it was from there I walked in via the path past Wortwell Hall and the mill.
The field edges held plenty of insects with Gatekeepers, Holly Blue, Peacock, Red Admiral, Meadow Brown and Comma. I lingered by some flowering bramble to photograph some insects for later identification finding Bumblebee Cheilosia, Vestal Cuckoo Bee, Bee-wolf and the bumblebee mimic hoverfly Eristalis intricaria. Also awaiting adjudication are a Furrow Bee sp and another Xylota hoverfly.
Down by the river I was deligted to find plenty of flowering Arrowhead which I've held off ticking until I saw it in bloom. Eventually finding one close enough to photograph without risking a swim I also found Lesser Water Parsnip, Frogbit, Fool's Watercress, Yellow Water Lily, Branched Bur-reed, Water Speedwell, Water Forget-me-not, Skullcap and a curious almost white flowered Black Horehound. Odonata were also good with several Norfolk Hawkers, Emperor Dragonfly, loads of Banded Demoiselles and my first 2 Willow Emeralds of the season.
