Mexico, The Yucatan, Day 15 - Chichen Itza hotel area, 27 February 2020

Today was largely a non-birding day spent around the gorgeous 'Yellow Town' of Izamal. The town was amazing and the non-birding highlight of the whole trip for me.

After we'd lingered in the town until way after lunch we hit the road again, the short distance to Chichen Itza. We didn't know it at the time but it was to be the most disappointing part of the trip.

After arriving at our hotel (which we were sadly booked in to for 2 nights!) I did a little birding in the immediate vicinity and along the lane. A tree by the hotel carpark held Greyish Saltator, 3 Yellow-winged Tanagers, Turquoise-browed Motmot and a couple of Hooded Orioles and Velasquez's Woodpeckers seemed like they were everywhere. Best were a group of c8 Yucatan Parrots and White-browed (Carolina) Wren while we also clocked up Bronzed Cowbirds, Cinnamon Hummingbird, Northern Waterthrush, Groove-billed Anis and Great Kiskadee.
